Valerie Mills earned a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from Florida State University and Tallahassee was her destination of choice to start her career. During her time at FSU, Valerie was active in the student-produced weather show. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society and welcomes any opportunity to talk weather.
Born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Val remembers experiencing South Florida hurricanes and other tropical systems as a child sparking an early interest in weather. She was inspired in middle school to become a meteorologist and never lost sight of her goal. Valerie was also destined to become a Florida State Seminole from the time she could do the chop and considers herself lucky that FSU has one of the best meteorology programs in the country.
While completing her degree, Val worked as an intern in Miami and Tampa where she learned to use some of the most advanced equipment available in meteorology today. Val also spent a summer studying in Panama, an experience that helped stoke her love of travel and learning about different cultures.
Valerie is the middle child between two brothers, one a Marine and the other a current FSU student. Family time is a very important part of her life, and if you ask Val, a good day is one spent on the water with family, friends and a nice high pressure system.
Val’s other loves include dance, yoga, hiking with her boyfriend and their two dogs, and of course, rooting on her beloved Seminoles.
