Sergeant Yeargin has been employed by the Valdosta Fire Department since 2007 and is currently assigned to Engine Company number two.
His responsibilities include maintaining and safely operating the fire truck, in addition to standing-in as a Company Officer in the absence of his supervisor. Sergeant Yeargin takes great pride in maintaining the appearance of the VFD fire trucks. He also serves on the VFD Honor Guard and spends countless off-duty hours proudly representing the department at funerals, ceremonies and various other events around the community and state.
During a routine residential educational program recently, a citizen living on Clover Drive asked Engine 2’s personnel about her fire extinguisher. After an examination of the extinguisher, the crew determined that it was out of date and unsafe to use. During the next shift, Sgt. Yeargin returned to work with a five pound fire extinguisher that he had personally acquired and returned to the citizen’s residence to deliver the new fire extinguisher. Sergeant Yeargin’s actions went above and beyond in delivering the highest level of customer service and in ensuring that citizens are safe.
The City of Valdosta applauds Sergeant Jonathan Yeargin for his dedication to the City of Valdosta and for being selected as the 2014 July Employee of the Month.
