One man dead, two injured during two-vehicle accident in Mitchell County

MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — UPDATE 4:33 p.m.: The Georgia State Patrol provided preliminary information about the incident Monday afternoon.

On Monday at 10:40 a.m., Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers were requested by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a two-vehicle crash on Georgia State Route 112 south of Frazier Road in Mitchell County.

The investigation determined that a 1987 Mazda compact pickup truck was traveling south on Ga. 112 negotiating a curve, approaching a 2022 International tractor trailer that was traveling north on Ga. 112.

The GSP said the pickup truck hydroplaned, the driver lost control and slid into the northbound lane of Ga. 112; striking the front of the tractor trailer.

After impact, the tractor trailer traveled over the pickup and the driver of the pickup truck – a 51 year old man - died of injuries sustained at the scene.

Two adult passengers in the pickup truck - a man and a woman - were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said Monday afternoon that a crash on State Route (SR) 112 westbound near Baconton and Greenough between SR 93 and Lime Pit Road has closed lanes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation advises those traveling in the area to expect delays and use alternate routes.
