Tornado confirmed in Cairo, hundreds of homes damaged

CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — A tornado has been officially confirmed to have ripped through he city of Cairo Sunday night, causing widespread damage.

The National Weather Service has also confirmed that a tornado touched down in Jackson County in the Alford community.

NWS has deployed three teams to review damage from the storms. One team is heading to Cairo, the second is heading to Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties, and the third will go to inspect damage in Washington, Jackson and Walton counties.

Grady County Schools has also canceled school for the county on Monday, March 4, "due to the apparent tornado that hit Southeast Cairo." Click here for more details.
