(WTXL) — After fighting crime on the big screen, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have received real police badges from a South Florida city.

Just one day after the red carpet premiere of the film “Bad Boys for Life,” Smith and Lawrence received the key to the city and were named honorary police officers by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina.

“They’ve earned their police badges and are always welcome here in Miami,” police tweeted.

The latest film in the “Bad Boys” phenomenon follows old-school cops Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, played by Smith and Lawrence as they team up to take down the vicious leader of a Miami drug cartel.

“Bad Boys for Life” hits theaters nationwide on Friday.
