ENGLAND (RNN/CNN) – An investigation is underway after officials say a tiger killed a zookeeper Monday in an enclosure at a zoo in the United Kingdom.

The zookeeper was identified as Rosa King, 34, and the woman’s mother told the UK Press Association she had worked at Hamerton Zoo Park for 14 years.

In a Facebook post, the zoo called the incident a “freak accident.”

“All our thoughts and sympathies are with our colleagues' friends and families at this dreadful time,” the zoo wrote.

The zoo says at no point was public safety affected, and the tiger did not escape its enclosure, a point confirmed by police.

The tiger was unharmed.

Hamerton Zoo Park, located about two hours north of London, evacuated visitors following the attack and will be closed while the investigation takes place. It has housed tigers since 2001.
