96-Year-Old runner breaks American record

Posted

DES MOINES, IA (WHO/CNN) – Even at 96 years old, Mike Fremont still has some wheels.

This week, the nonagenarian became the oldest man to complete the Grand Blue Mile road race. He did it in 13 minutes, 55 seconds.

"I'm not sure it's a good time, but I think it's OK,” Fremont said after the race. "I felt very good, but not sprightly.”

Others might disagree.

Fremont started running in the 1950's to reduce stress and improve his health. He didn’t stop running marathons until he turned 90.

Fremont still has his eye on other goals. He’ll attempt to set a world record for his age group in the 800 meters on Friday.
