PASADENA, TX (KTRK/CNN) - An 11-year-old girl in Pasadena went straight for the family Dodge Durango Friday with her little brother in tow, according to police.
Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department said it's a miracle an officer spotted her speeding along South Shaver Road.
The officer pulled her over without anyone getting hurt.
Mitchell said the children were with their aunt Friday afternoon, who then called the children's mother and asked if the children could drive themselves home.
"She gave her permission for them to drive over to the 1900 block of Lillian and there again, that's probably, I'd say two or three miles," Mitchell said.
The mother, Maria Lopez, appeared in court Monday morning charged with two counts of child endangerment.
"She did admit that she had driven before, but that this was the first time she's driven alone. She normally had an adult with her," Mitchell said.
Lopez is out of jail on a total of $3,000 bond.
