DURHAM, NC (WRAL/CNN) - Police are on the hunt for the person who opened fire on a packed SUV on Sunday, killing a 7-year-old boy.
The driver of the SUV tried to make it to the hospital but couldn't because the tire was also shot.
It stopped at the Tokyo Express restaurant.
"This one lady ran inside all frantic, yelling and screaming, talking about her baby got shot," Brian Arevalo said.
People inside the restaurant, like the Arevalo family, describe it as complete chaos.
"It was just too much going on. It was too much yelling, everybody opening the door. One of the employees was crying," he said.
No one knew where the shooter was, so patrons hid in the kitchen for safety.
"I was very scared. A lot of things going through your mind. As a mother, I wanted just to have my children safe," Jacqueline Arevalo said.
Police say 10 people were inside this SUV, five adults and five children.
They believe only the 7-year-old was hit by gunfire, but it's hard to say because three of the adults from the SUV ran off.
