NORFOLK,  VA (WTKR/CNN) - After three robberies and one attempted robbery over the course of two days, Johnnie Jones took responsibility from jail on Tuesday.

"Yeah, I did it. I'm guilty of a couple of them, yes sir," Jones admitted. "Well, I attempted to get cash to pay some bills for my sister and myself."

Starting Sunday and continuing into Monday, police in Norfolk, VA, say Jones robbed or attempted to rob four stores in the city.

He said he did it to help his bedridden sister.

"Resorted to what I did to keep my car, get food and meals and care for her and care for myself," Jones said.

Jones, who insists he was only trying to get enough money to pay the interest on his car loan, described what he told the store clerks.

"Real polite, I just said, ‘I'd like to have the paper money,’" Jones explained.

Jones said he was only carrying "a bb gun."

"It was in my belt," he said.

Now sitting in jail, Jones said he absolutely regrets what he did and wishes he could take it back. And he said his sister had no idea.

“She didn't know I was doing any of this. She wouldn't condone any of that. When I called her she said, ‘You’ve got to be crazy. Even though I'm going through what I'm going through, we were raised better than that,’" Jones said with shame in his voice.

Now, he hopes taking responsibility will spare him a lengthy jail sentence.

"And that's only because I’m 60, I'll be 61 later this year. That's pretty much a life-sentence these days," Jones said.
