10-year-old boy with cancer leads tractor parade as grand marshal

MOLINE, IL (WQAD/CNN) - A town in Illinois had a special honor for a 10-year-old boy who is battling cancer.

It's safe to say, no one loves big green tractors as much as 10-year-old Landon Martin.

While growing up on a farm in Virginia, they've always fascinated him.

"As long as I can remember, he was always drawn to them, he likes to ride them," Martin’s father John Mason said.

After battling cancer for three years, Make-A-Wish Foundation reached out to Martin and his family giving him a wish to go anywhere he wanted.

"He decided he wanted to come to the John Deere tractor factory," Mason said.

So they headed to Quad Cities for the Heritage Tractor Parade and show in Moline, where they made him the grand marshal.

He led dozens of tractors down the streets, although he was a little shy at first.

Martin and his family are hoping this wish come true will help on his road to recovery.

"He just had a week-long session of chemotherapy a few weeks ago," Mason said.

Martin's father said the boy is scheduled to resume his chemotherapy in about two weeks.
