MIAMI, GARDENS, FL  (WSVN/CNN) – Three people working on a tower died Wednesday when a piece of equipment failed, causing the workers to fall at least 300 feet.

They were working on a television transmission tower, which is shared by WSVN and WPLG, WSVN reported. The bodies of the victims were covered in yellow tarps on the ground, the report said.

The workers were on what is called a gin pole when the piece of equipment collapsed. The pole was attached to the tower.  The tower is 944 feet high.

WSVN-TV owner and president Edmund Ansin expressed sympathy to the families impacted, and said the work being done was required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
