QUEENS, NY (RNN) - A woman who said she won nearly $43 million at a New York casino but instead was offered only a steak is suing.
Katrina Bookman took a photo of herself last August next to a slot machine whose screen read “Printing cash ticket $42,949,672.76."
But the state’s gaming commission claimed the machine at Resorts World Casino malfunctioned and the casino offered Bookman a free steak dinner and $2.25.
Her attorney told CNN that he filed the suit after a months-long attempt to get the casino to pay Bookman more money.
"You can't claim a machine is broken because you want it to be broken. Does that mean it wasn't inspected? Does it mean it wasn't maintained?," Alan Ripka told CNNMoney. "And if so, does that mean that people that played there before [Bookman] had zero chance of winning?"
He said he asked for clarification on how exactly the machine malfunctioned, but hasn't gotten any answers.
He’s seeking at least $43 million in damages.
