Woman sues bagel shop of contaminated tea that left her in 'constant pain'

LAYTON, UT (KUTV/CNN) – A Utah woman is suing Einstein Bros. Bagels after she says she received tea from one restaurant that poisoned her.

Selina Beilstein and her daughter were eating at Einstein Bros. in Layton, UT, last July when Beilstein poured herself a cup of tea that she says tasted “tainted.”

Her daughter then tried the tea to see if it tasted wrong.

Moments later, Beilstein claims she and her daughter became violently ill. Both began vomiting and experienced burning in their throats, and Beilstein says she developed hives and a rash.

The woman and her daughter were both rushed to the doctor, but Beilstein says they haven’t been the same since that sip of tea.

Beilstein suffers from esophagitis, or inflammation of the esophagus, and acid reflux. She has had two surgeries, and she says she’s still in constant pain.

In the lawsuit, Beilstein claims the restaurant had used an industrial cleaner called Urnex on the tea dispenser, and one of the employees failed to rinse all of the chemical out of the dispenser.

Beilstein is asking for $1 million in damages.
