A woman fell at least six feet after the sidewalk beneath her collapsed in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood Saturday.
Surveillance video shows the woman standing next to her husband when she suddenly disappears.
Witnesses said the victim’s husband tried to catch her, and neighbors heard her crying out in pain after landing on a pile of broken concrete.
Firefighters had to pull the woman out of the hole. Witnesses said she badly injured her leg. She was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she is in serious but stable condition.
Residents are shocked and concerned.
“Last night there was a whole bunch of people here,” said one resident. “We could have all just been standing there and it could have just fell.”
