(RNN) - Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s 2015 hit, “See You Again” has taken the top spot as the most-watched YouTube video of all time with 2,898,370,840 views.
The video dethroned PSY’s “Gangnam Style” that held the original record for five years and stands at 2,895,445,428 views.
The “See You Again” video has averaged 3 million views a day in 2017 alone. The video was uploaded to YouTube on Wiz Khalifa’s personal channel on April 6, 2015.
"I remember when I signed up for YouTube in 2007 and had hopes of uploading a video and it reaching 10,000 views," Charlie Puth said in a statement. "Now a decade later, it feels incredible to be a part of the most-viewed video on YouTube."
The song was the top single from the “Furious 7” movie soundtrack, and commercial mega-hit, selling more than 4 million copies in the United States.
"I'm super excited and grateful to everyone who supported the song and video on YouTube, and happy to inspire and impact so many lives,” Khalifa said.
The video, directed by Marc Klasfeld, is an emotional tribute to lost loved ones and particularly the late actor Paul Walker, who rose to fame with his star roles in the Fast and Furious movie series.
Walker died before “Furious 7” was released, and the See You Again video shows footage of the actor in various scenes from the many installments of the series.
The song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks, and was in the top 10 for a total of 19 weeks.
In April 2015, the song broke Spotify’s record for the most streams in one day with 4.2 million plays.
"See You Again" is one of 14 videos on YouTube that have more than 2 billion views.
