(CNN) - Parents will do almost anything to keep their children safe, but sometimes they don't realize that the medications that make use healthier could be dangerous to kids.

"So most medications, whether it be over-the-counter medications, prescriptions, herbal medications, it's always best to keep them out of sight and out of reach of children,' pharmacist Usheema Thomas said.

It's not just prescriptions or over-the-counter medications parents have to worry about.

"You have herbal medications, you have even creams," Thomas said. "You have children that ingest creams because they don't think about it a something that is medications. Something as simple as just rubbing alcohol, peroxide - these things can be very harmful."

It's a good idea to keep children's medicine in its original packing and not a pill planner because a mistake can be deadly for a kid.
