(RNN) – Sotheby's sold the original drawing of the Hundred Acre Wood from “Winnie-the-Pooh” this week, and the auction price might even make old Eeyore smile.
When the bidding was done, it fetched nearly $570,000 – a new record for any book illustration sold at auction.
E.H. Shepard was hired in 1926 to illustrate the book written by A.A. Milne. It appears on the inside cover and also was used in the opening animation for Disney’s 1966 move “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Honey Tree.”

In the book, the map was supposed to have been drawn by Christopher Robin, one of the main characters.
The map says, “Drawn by me and Mr. Shepard (sic) helpd.”
The record price for the drawing comes as a new “Winnie-the-Pooh” movie is due to hit theaters next month.
“Christopher Robin” reunites Pooh and the rest of the gang with a now grown-up Christopher Robin.
