HUNTINGTON, WV (WSAZ/CNN) - Imagine finding yourself face to face with a shark. That's when one woman says her vacation turned into a nightmare.
The shark took Tiffany Johnson’s arm, and she says it's nothing short of a miracle that she didn't lose more than that.
Her husband J.J. Johnson says his wife’s peace due to her faith in God inspired him as he watched her swim back to the boat with a bloodied, mangled arm.
The couple has worked in campus ministry at Marshall University, and was on vacation in the Bahamas. The attack happened on the last day of their cruise.
“He had my arm in his mouth,” Tiffany Johnson said of the shark. “When I went to yank it out of his mouth, that’s when he clamped down.”
She said the attack took place while she was snorkeling.
“I thought, I’m not going to die here. This is not it,” Johnson remembers thinking during the attack. The shark could have followed up and the blood could have attracted other sharks.
The couple credits the Lord for her survival. “It is just by the grace of God. It’s like God said, ‘No,’” she said of her survival while her husband agreed.
