WASHINGTON, DC (WJLA/CNN) -The Washington National Cathedral has voted to remove stained glass windows honoring Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
The cathedral said the windows, installed in 1953, will be removed and stored until they can find another use for them.
The cathedral said they started thinking about removing them two years ago after the racial shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.
The recent racial violence in Charlottesville brought urgency to their "discernment process"
They voted Tuesday to immediately remove them.
