Wandering emu finaly captured

WAYNE COUNTY, PA (WNEP/CNN) – An emu on the run has been the saga of the week in one township.

Drivers came up on that emu right in the middle of the highway Friday morning.

For the better part of a week, the 5-foot flightless bird has been wandering the area.

Brian Fulp, the director of the Himalayan Institute, a nonprofit organization, said he thinks the emu got loose after its original owner sold it.

"I've been here 20 years, the Institute's been here 40 years this year, and we've never had anything that's caused this much ruckus on campus,” Fulp said. “But this emu, this guy…this guy is hot – he’s got two legs, he's strong, he's fast."

One rescue and capture attempt saw the bird get away when volunteers tried to corral it into a trailer.

But Friday afternoon the emu was shot with a tranquilizer and taken to an area animal park.
