(CNN) - A photo of a baby with what looks to be a pierced dimple is sparking debate on social media.

The photo, however, is not real.

Enedina Vance posted the picture of her 6-month-old daughter to Facebook with a description calling herself the parent so all decisions are hers and saying "I made her, I own her."

The post ends with a string of hashtags, including "#sarcasm."

But that last little clue got overlooked, and the photo has been shared more than 13,000 times.

At first glance, the picture does appear to show a pierced dimple, but the diamond stud was simply pasted onto the photo after-the-fact.

Vance, who lives in Fostoria, OH, said she received death threats and hateful messages from people who thought the picture was real. Others, however, understood the intended meaning.

Vance calls herself a strong advocate against piercing or circumcising children, and said the photo was meant to spark discussion on the topic by creating a parody of the arguments sometimes used by supporters.
