Video: Women chase laptop swiper

CASTRO VALLEY, CA (KGO/CNN) - Two women in a coffee shop became quick friends after a crime brought them together.

They both sprung into action when a would-be thief tried to swipe one of their laptops.

"I remember just going like crazy," Hannie Dong said.

She dances for a professional basketball team and was working at a Starbucks on Monday night.

"I'm trying to break into the tech industry," she said. "I'm trying to apply for jobs and work on different coding projects."

Out of nowhere, a young woman appeared.

"She was standing right next to the counter. She just swiped my laptop and just started running," Dong said.

"And I just heard this woman cry, 'Give me my laptop' and I looked up and  saw a woman chasing her," Welborn said.

Without a second thought, Dong springs into action, running like the wind with good Samaritan and mother of two Misty Welborn, close behind.

"I felt like I had superhuman strength. I've never run that fast in my life before," Dong said.

"I just had her back. Whatever she was doing, I was doing with her," Welborn said.

The women followed the suspect to a getaway car just around the corner.

"She got in. I ripped the door back open and went in after her. And basically there's been some struggle. I grab my laptop. She pulled my hair and I just try to get out of her grasp," Dong said.

"They thought they had a weak victim and she's a savage!" Welborn said.

Most of the time, taking the law into your own hands isn't always the best idea. But in this case, even law enforcement is impressed.

"In her case, she was courageous," Alameda Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ray Kelly said. "She was not going to be a victim. She chased down those suspects and got her laptop back. I say we're hiring at sheriff's office, so if she wants a job, please give us a call because we're looking for people like that."

While Dong plans to stick to dancing and coding and Welborn plans to remain a delivery driver, one thing is for certain. This is an experience both won't forget anytime soon.

"I just have such a great appreciation for this human being right here. I think she is amazing!" Dong said of Welborn.
