DANVERS, MA (WCVB/CNN) – Two teenagers have been charged with assault and child endangerment after posting a video to Snapchat that shows them putting a baby inside a refrigerator.
Bonnie, a mother of two, asked her niece and a friend to watch her 7-month-old daughter for a few minutes Monday evening, so she could take a shower.
Police say while the mother was occupied, the teenagers put the girl in the refrigerator, closed the door completely and laughed.
Within moments, they removed the baby unharmed.
The teenagers posted a video of the incident on Snapchat. The baby can be heard crying throughout.
"I was horrified. I was in shock. I'm traumatized from that. I don't want anyone near my child anymore,” the baby’s mother said.
The mother says her baby is OK, and she doesn’t believe her niece was trying to abuse her daughter but was rather joking around.
"Kids do stupid things. She didn't – I know she wouldn't hurt my daughter, and that wasn't her intentions. I think it was all foolishness, stupidity,” Bonnie said.
Police arrested the two teenagers and charged them with child endangerment and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Bonnie says her niece is no longer allowed to babysit or see her 7-month-old.
"You live, you learn and this is a lesson my niece will learn: to be careful who you leave your children with. You can't trust anyone, not even your own family,” the mother said.
