HOUSTON, TX (KPRC/CNN) – A suspected drunk driver forced a Houston police officer to jump 16 feet from a freeway ramp to the grass below.
Officer Rashad Carter suffered injuries to his back, spine, tailbone and legs from the July 28 accident. Houston Police on Thursday released body cam video of the incident.
Carter is in a back brace recovering at home following a hospital stay. Bianca Chanelle Bennett, 25, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
“Before I knew it, there was a car right up on me. The headlights were facing right on me. I had less than a second to react to the situation,” Carter told KPRC.
The impact from the jump knocked Carter out, and he added that he could not feel his arms or legs. Carter has been on the force for about seven years.
