Video: School bus weaves with children aboard

PRICE, UT (KSTU/CNN) - A school bus driver was seen on camera taking kids to school on a crashed bus on Wednesday morning.

The driver has been fired, and is facing possible criminal charges.

Police said the driver crashed, then continued to pick children up and take them to school.

"We were in shock and disbelief," said Brent Innes. He and his wife, Kimberlee witnessed the driving and took video.

"The back end was so off-kilter, it just looked like he was sliding down a sheet of ice. I was like, 'Wow, how is this even happening?'" he said.

They noticed the sideways driving bus and began to follow it, thinking, "I hope there's not kids in that bus."

But there were kids on the bus.

The driver said he had crashed into a cement barrier by a canal. Police said he drove off and continued the route, picking up kids.

Police said none of the children were hurt.

Jordan Burrows said his 6-year-old son was on the bus.

"He said the back end of the bus was hitting trash cans," he said.

The bus also narrowly missed cars before pulling into the school and dropping the kids off.

"How they got there safely is beyond me," Innes said.

Police said they received several complaints, and they caught up with the driver back at the garage.

The driver said he knew he was in trouble, so he thought he'd just drop the children off and take the bus back, the police chief says.

Burrows said the district didn't tell parents about the incident.

"I'm afraid for my own child. Why weren't we notified?" he said.

The district emailed a statement on Thursday, saying in part, "The bus driver did not follow protocol. When district personnel were made aware of the incident, the students had already been delivered to the school."

Police gave the driver, 75-year-old Juergen Kaehl, a citation for improper lane travel.

Authorities also said the city attorney is looking at possible charges for reckless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident.
