PHILADELPHIA (KYW/CNN) – Police are searching for the suspect and victims in what they believe was a case of road rage after surveillance video caught a man smashing the windows out of an SUV with a sledgehammer.
The video shows a red truck follow an SUV into a Philadelphia parking lot Tuesday. The truck driver then gets out and uses a sledgehammer to smash the SUV’s windows.
One of the passengers in the SUV falls out of the vehicle at one point in the attack. Police say the attacker hit that person with the sledgehammer before breaking more windows.
Both vehicles then leave the area.
Police say they’re looking for both the victims and the perpetrator.
"If anyone sees this and they recognize the people – obviously, if they recognize the person who committed the act, we want to know that, as well – but we certainly want to provide assistance and help and justice to what appears to be the victim of a serious crime,” Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said.
Witnesses say what happened in the parking lot was out of control and should never have happened.
“Society today is spiraling out of control, and these are some of the results,” witness George Gaynor said.
