GALVESTON, TX (KTRK/CNN) - A man survived being set on fire Tuesday morning, and it was caught all on surveillance video.
"I've watched the video a few times. It was truly an explosion," said Danny Hart, the victim's friend. "He said, 'Danny. I was on fire, took my shirt off and just started running.'"
Hart and others who know the victim said he has long been harassed by an ex and that she turned off the power to his apartment twice Tuesday morning, apparently attacking him the last time he came out.
"He cried to me and said, 'I think I should have been dead,'" Hart said.
In the video, the victim is seen frantically trying to take off his burning shirt.
Police said he suffered second- and third-degree burns.
They aren't sure yet what caused the fire or explosion, only saying there was some sort of accelerant used.
The victim was rushed to the hospital and has identified his attacker.
Police have yet to arrest the suspect but said a felony charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury is pending, a crime punishable by 99 years in prison.
