DIXON, IL (WLS/CNN) – A quick-thinking motorist in Illinois came to the aid of a stranger by jumping through a moving car’s open window.
Randy Tompkins saw a car driving in the wrong lane Friday afternoon in Dixon, IL. Traveling at a slow rate of speed, the car ran a red light, almost hitting Tompkins’ truck.
Tompkins instinctively knew the other driver was having a seizure because he’s seen them before, so he stopped his truck, ran to the other car and jumped through the open window.
"I was praying that he wasn't going to hit the gas, you know, because obviously, I had to jump through his window. I just did it so fast that I didn't even think about it. I just did it,” Tompkins said.
Tompkins managed to put the car in park as police arrived. The driver was then transported to the hospital.
“We want to thank Tompkins for his heroism and for coming to a complete stranger’s aid today!” wrote the Dixon Police Department on Twitter.
