MOSUL (CNN) - Freeing Mosul from the grip of ISIS is closer than ever. Every day of the group's deadly reign of terror since it took over in 2014 has been a living torment for the residents of Iraq's second-largest city, the site of biblical Nineveh.
CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh and his team went to the heart of the battle for control for Mosul, meters away from the sliver of territory that's still in the hands of the terrorists. American air power is helping boost Iraq's forward push.
ISIS also is on the run in Syria, where it is battling to hold Raqqa, its self-proclaimed capital.
