ITALY (CNN) – Firefighters freed a 7-month-old baby from the rubble left behind after an earthquake hit the Italian island of Ischia Monday night.
Footage released by the Fire and Rescue Service shows the child being lifted safely from the rubble.
Rescuers were trying to reach seven people buried underneath, including the infant and his 7-year-old brother, a police official says.
Police say one woman died as a result of the earthquake when she was struck by debris. At least 25 injuries were reported on the resort island, according to public broadcaster RAI.
Helicopters are transporting the injured to hospitals in mainland Italy, officials say.
The U.S. Geological survey says the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3.
Parts of the island were left without power.
