(CNN) - You'd expect to find a tiger cub in a zoo, and not in a Chevy Camaro.
But that's where Customs officials found the animal early on Wednesday. The car was crossing the border from Mexico into California.
Officials say the tiger cub was in the front floor board on the passenger side. The car's 18-year-old driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is working with the San Diego Zoo to ensure the cub's well-being. Customs and Border Patrol has been tweeting out images of the cute tiger cub, which has gained a following. Customs said that importing an endangered species is illegal without a permit.
