(CNN) - Two paratroopers killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday were on their first deployment abroad. Sgt. Jonathon Michael Hunter and Spec. Christopher Michael Harris were both infantry men in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Their convoy was struck by an explosive device near the city of Kandahar.
Hunter, 23, was originally from Columbus, IN, and joined the Army in 2014. Harris, 24, was originally from Jackson Springs, NC, and joined in 2013.
Both men attended training at Ft. Benning, GA, and were part of the 1st Brigade combat team, also called the Devil Brigade.
A gofundme account has been established for Hunter's wife, Whitney, according to the Stars and Stripes.
A gofundme account has been set up for Harris' wife, Britt, as well. She is expecting.
