(CNN) - The Pentagon has identified a U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan.
Pfc. Hansen B. Kirkpatrick of Wasilla, AK, died from wounds received during an "indirect fire attack" on Monday. He was only 19.
Two other soldiers were wounded in the attack in Helmand Province. Kirkpatrick was based at Fort Bliss, TX.
The U.S. has several thousand troops in Afghanistan trying to help the government fend off Taliban militants and an ISIS threat.
