(CNN) - As of July 1, United Airlines will no longer offer flights to Venezuela.

The airline will join others, including Lufthansa and Air Canada, who have stopped flying to the South American nation all together. American Airlines and Delta have significantly scaled back their schedules.

A once-popular route for oil executives, demand for travel has fallen as the country faces political, economic, and humanitarian crises.

Venezuela's falling currency and political chaos is causing other American businesses to pull out as well, including Pepsi and General Motors.

More than 55 people have died in protests in Venezuela over soaring inflation, rising unemployment and a shortage of basic goods under President Nicolas Maduro.
