(RNN) – A judge in the U.K. ruled that sex dolls resembling children are obscene after a former elementary school governor tried to import them into the country, the BBC reports.
David Turner, 72, purchased a doll in China that was was 3 feet, 10 inches tall, and tried to send it home to be a “companion” for him and his wife. Turner said he had two other child dolls in his home that investigators claimed he had sex with, according to the BBC.
However, Turner will serve up to seven years in prison after officials discovered more than 34,000 indecent images of children between the ages of 3 and 16.
A representative from UK’s National Crime Agency says purchases of child sex dolls can indicate that there might be crimes against children.
The United Kingdom has since March 2016 seized more than 100 child-sex dolls, which are usually advertised as adult dolls on websites. The lifelike dolls are usually made in Asia, and are designed to be lifelike.
Along with the U.K., people in the U.S. and Australia are petitioning their government to ban the import of child sex dolls.
