Uber driver charged after exposing himself to passenger

GARDEN CITY, NY (WABC/CNN) – An Uber driver in New York was arrested after he unzipped his pants and exposed himself to a female passenger for the duration of her ride, police say.

Taylor Evans, a 24-year-old former driver for Uber, is charged with public lewdness and has been banned from the company.

Police say Evans picked up a female passenger, who didn’t wish to be identified, from her house Monday morning.

While driving, they say Evans unzipped his pants and exposed himself to the passenger.

“I was very freaked out. I didn’t know what to do. I was in the middle of traffic, so if I stepped out of the car, I might just get run over,” the victim said.

The woman says she regularly takes pictures of her Uber drivers’ licenses, just in case something goes wrong.

“I mean, every time I get on the Uber, I – you never know, but I didn’t think it was going to be me this time,” she said.

The woman also took a picture as proof that Evans exposed himself and notified police after she made it to work safely – but shaken.

When police asked Evans about the incident, he told them he never hurt his passenger, and he hadn’t been exposing himself, simply “adjusting” himself.

“I must have left it out,” he said.

The victim says she finds it unlikely Evans forgot the exposure.

Police are searching for possible additional victims.
