(WJLA/CNN) - The U.S. Marine Corps and D.C. police are investigating after a marine was shot and killed while on duty in Washington.
The shooting happened Tuesday morning on the grounds of the Marine Barracks in southeast Washington.
The Marine Corps says the shooting was not self-inflicted, but said details on what happened are still under investigation.
The victim's identity will not be released until family members are notified.
The U.S. Marine band has canceled its annual New Year’s Day serenade, scheduled for Tuesday at the Marine Barracks, due to the shooting.
