(RNN) – A man in Texas was bit by a shark on Thursday, and while it resulted in a pretty gruesome-looking injury, he reportedly is in stable condition.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office released a photo of the man’s leg, showing a number of deep bite marks above his knee.
KFDM reported the bite victim was 42 years old and had been attacked near Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula, at the edge of Galveston Bay.
“There are plenty of sharks off the coast,” Lt. Greg Hayes with the sheriff’s office told KFDM. “But a bite or attack is rare. Usually, they’re black tipped sharks, a smaller shark.”
The man was swimming when he was attacked.
