WASHINGTON (CNN) -  President Donald Trump's commission on combating drug addiction and the opioid crisis met for the fourth time on Friday. Commissioners discussed insurance issues related to the opioid epidemic.

The meeting comes after President Donald Trump pledged on Monday to declare a national emergency to fight opioid overdoses. That would give state and federal agencies more resources.

Fighting the opioid epidemic was a key talking point during Trump's presidential campaign, and he has promised to declare a national emergency before. Tom Price suggested a national emergency was not necessary when he is serving as Health and Human Services Secretary.

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the number of American deaths involving opioids has quadrupled since 1999. The commission is scheduled to meet again on Nov. 1.

It will discuss and vote on its final report. For opiod prevention tips, visit this CDC site.
