AKRON, IA (CNN) - President Donald Trump's eldest son spent Saturday in Iowa shooting birds.
Donald Trump Jr was the guest of honor at Iowa Rep. Steve King's annual pheasant hunt.
The event kicks off the 2017 hunting season and also serves as a fundraiser for King.
Trump arrived in Iowa on Friday and shared stories from his father's campaign trail with a group of hunters that included Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert.
Both King and Gohmert praised Trump's hunting skills.
"You know, it was a beautiful, clear, still day in Iowa and the sky was so filled with feathers one could be convinced the angels were having pillow fights," King said.
Trump did not get those skills from his father. He learned to hunt from his mother Ivana's father.
"He's a great shot - he knows what he's doing," Gohmert said. "He knows ammunition, he knows weapons. I'm very impressed."
Trump is expected to be a significant presence in his father's re-election campaign in 2020 and for other Republicans in the 2018 mid-term elections.
