(CNN) – Donald Trump Jr. is asking the Secret Service for less protection and more privacy, according to several sources familiar with the situation.

As the son of the president, Trump Jr. is authorized but not legally required to have high-level security.

Most recently, he asked to travel without protection during a family trip to the Bahamas in June.

The Secret Service says for safety reasons, they can’t confirm who is currently receiving protection, but sources say the agency has pushed back on Trump Jr.’s request.

A decision to waive full-time protection is not unprecedented. Former President Ronald Reagan’s son, Ron, declined Secret Service protection during his father’s second term.
