(RNN) - The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported late Sunday that Tropical Storm Franklin has formed over the northwest Caribbean.

Late Sunday, the NHC said Franklin was 100 miles north of Cabo Gracias a Dios on the Nicaraguan-Honduran border. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving west-northwest at 13 mph.

Franklin is expected to keep moving in that direction for the next 48 hours, with forecasters predicting it will move across the Yucatan Peninsula on Monday night and Tuesday. It is expected to strengthen before reaching the Yucatan Peninsula’s eastern coast.

Tropical-storm-force winds extended outward up to 105 miles from the center, mainly to the northeast.
