(RNN) - Tropical Storm Don has formed east of the Windward Island, with watches and warnings issued for portions of that region, the National Hurricane Center reports

The storm formed east of the Windward Islands, and watches and warnings have been issued for portions of the Windward Islands. 

At 5 p.m. ET, the storm was located about 485 east-southeast of Barbados and about 595 miles east of Trinidad, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

The government of Barbados has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Barbados and for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The government of  and St. Lucia has also issued a Tropical Storm Watch.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case, the next 24 to 36 hours. 

Conditions are expected in the warning area by late Tuesday and Tuesday night. Don is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across the Windward Islands through Wednesday morning, the NHS reports.

On June 21, Tropical Storm Cindy was the last to make landfall in the US, with  winds claiming the life of a 10-year-old boy in Fort Morgan, AL, when a large log slammed from the surf of the gulf onto his head.  

Waves generated by the storm prompted a distress call from a sinking shrimp trawler about 80 miles off the coast of Galveston, and  a waterspout came ashore in Biloxi, MS. The area is experiencing flooding and about 300 road closures,WLOX reported. Tornado warnings were also issued for Hancock County, MS.
