KENOSHA COUNTY, WI (WITI/CNN) - A kangaroo escaped a farm in Wisconsin and gave authorities the runaround before being captured on Thursday.
Joe Smith was getting ready for the busy season at his father's vegetable and produce farm when he saw something he'd never seen before.
"Dad!" he yelled, "There's a kangaroo out in the yard."
His father, Jerry Smith, was surprised.
The three-foot reed kangaroo is one of two making a guest appearance this fall on the farm.
"One way or another little Joey got out," Joe said. "He's five years old."
The farm's head animal wrangler, Steve Pulera, said he thinks he knows what happened.
"He went through one open gate, the very one open gate that was open and meandered westward," Pulera said.
From there, Joey hopped down County Highway L. He didn't make it very far due to the morning fog.
Not long after Joey's great escape, a Kenosha County deputy caught up to him.
