Tornadoes, flooding batter Midwest

Posted

(CNN) – Severe damage was reported in Missouri and Oklahoma after weekend storms left some without power and others with a lot of repair work to do.

Clean-up efforts continue in the Midwest after the storms, which included an EF2 tornado that hit Tulsa, Oklahoma, early Sunday morning.

The twister tore through neighborhoods, uprooting power lines and trees.

A branch smashed through homeowner Rick Cole’s roof, causing water to gush into his house, while business owner Michael Gutterman suffered heavy loss.

"We've lost pretty much the majority of a 24,000-foot building roof, and inside is just completely soaked. Lot of inventory, a lot of sampling materials are just completely destroyed,” Gutterman said.

Dozens of people were injured, and thousands were without power for a time.

Rough weather also hit neighboring Kansas and Missouri, and parts of those states fell victim to flood waters.

This was the third time within the past two weeks the Kansas City area has had significant flooding.

Forecasters say more storms may return to Missouri later this week, but they’re not expected to be severe.
