URABA, COLOMBIA (Policia De Colombia/CNN) -  In Colombia, police seized more than 12 tons of cocaine. The packages containing the drug were found underground.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos praised the authorities for the work done to combat drug trafficking in the country. The drug seizure is one of the biggest hits against the notorious drug-trafficking group called Golfo Clan.

The catch was the biggest in the nation’s history, Reuters said, adding that the U.S. market value of the drugs was about $360 million. The cocaine was found underground on four farms. The nation produces about 910 tons per year, the Reuters report said.

Colombia is a huge producer of cocaine used in the U.S., the DEA says.  The U.S. State Department said in March that Colombia is the world’s top producer of cocaine, and acres in coca cultivation jumped 42 percent from 2014 to 2015.

Drug overdoses claim the lives of tens of thousands of Americans each year.
