WEXFORD, TX (KTVT/CNN) - Family members are heartbroken after two toddlers died in a hot car in Texas.

Raymond Ramirez says the two children - identified as a 16-month-old Cavanaugh and 2-year-old Juliet Ramirez - were his cousins.

Parker County officials say the mother told them the kids "took off" and she later found them inside a car on the property.

She said they got inside the car and locked themselves in.

Investigators say she broke a window to get to the children but they were already unresponsive and were pronounced dead shortly after.

Authorities suspect the children died from extreme heat exposure.
