(RNN) – “The Simpsons” did it again – add the 2018 Winter Olympics curling match to the list of the events the show has correctly predicted over the last 28 years.
When the United States men’s curling team beat Sweden 10-7 Saturday for the gold medal, it was only the second medal the U.S. had ever won in the sport.
Everyone was surprised – except “Simpsons” writer Rob LaZebnik.
In 2010, LaZebnik wrote “Boy Meets Curl,” an episode in which Marge and Homer Simpson compete in mixed doubles curling against Sweden.
The Simpsons ultimately brought home the gold for the U.S.

It’s a creepy coincidence made all the more eerie by the sheer number of events “The Simpsons” has predicted, including Disney buying Fox, the FIFA corruption scandal and Donald Trump’s presidency.
The phenomenon was popularized by a 2002 episode of “South Park” called “Simpsons Already Did It,” in which character Butters tries to come up with a way to take over the world that hasn’t already been on “The Simpsons.”
The curling upset has also been compared to the “Miracle on Ice” performed by the U.S. men’s ice hockey team in 1980’s Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY.

Made up of amateur players, the U.S. team beat the professional players of the Soviet Union, who had won gold in five of the six previous Winter Olympic Games. They then went on to clinch the gold by beating Finland.
The win inspired a 1981 made-for-TV movie called “Miracle on Ice” and the 2004 feature film “Miracle.”
