Texas sergeant hospitalized after exposure to opioid-laced flier

In Harris County, the sheriff reports that fliers were left on over a dozen cars in their parking lot. One of those was contaminated with fentanyl, a dangerous opioid.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that a sergeant employed with the sheriff's office found a flier on the windshield of her vehicle at the station, located at 601 Lockwood in Houston.  She removed the flier, got into her car and drove away. She soon began feeling lightheaded and had other symptoms. She was taken to the hospital, and is being treated for fentanyl exposure. She has been stabilized, the sheriff says, and released from the hospital.

At least 12 other vehicles in the parking lot were found with the fliers attached. So far, only one has been found contaminated with the dangerous opioid, the sheriff says. Harris County Hazmat is evaluating the scene.

"We don't know if this was targeted at law enforcement or just a random incident," Sheriff Gonzalez said during a press conference.

The sheriff said that all the vehicles are being treated for possible fentanyl contamination.
